A Single Swim follows Courtney's life and death, while taking a closer look into an amoebic infection very few people ever hear about - until it's too late. Tracing as far back as 1960s, Naegleria fowleri and the resulting infection of this parasite have taken more than a dozen lives, with a fatality rate of nearly 100%.
Through an examination of Courtney's case along with stories of other victims across the United States, A Single Swim offers a glimpse into our waters' rare silent killer. From ecology to symptoms, hospital care to awareness, find out what can happen ... after a single swim.

******************************REVIEW*******************************
EVERYONE MUST READ THIS BOOK!!! MORE THAN A FIVE STAR REVIEW
Kristina Circelli did a wonderful job with her first non fiction novel. The story was inspired by her cousin Courtney Nash's death due to Naegleria Fowleri. A silent killer. Kristina with you writing this story you have helped raise awareness. Thank you
Amoeba that invades the brain and causes a fatal infection to nearly everyone it comes in contact with passed by relatively unknown, resides in warm waters of stagnant rivers and lakes throughout the US and other parts of the world. Fresh water that reaches 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Thrives in higher water temperatures often as high as 115 degrees F. PAM is considered a disease of the central nervous system as meningitis in its early stages.
Kristina also tells others peoples stories that have been affected by Naegleria Fowleri. There are different organizations out there that were started by family members to help raise awareness. This has been featured on the TV show Monsters Inside Me. After reading this book I realized that this particular case does exist.
For Kristina's family and others to share their loved ones stories so others are aware is totally amazing and a can be a hard thing to do. Raising awareness for something people know nothing to very little about is really important and with them doing so and everyone reading this book it could help save a life. I know if a family member or someone I know comes down with these symptoms after swimming I can notify the doctors of such cases especially when it isn't known to every part of the country case wise anyways.
I feel everyone should read this cause WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW CAN KILL YOU!!
